comparing education systems
The Japanese educational system was reformed after World War II. The old 6-5-3-3 system was changed to a 6-3-3-4 system (6 years of elementary school, 3 years of junior high school, and 3 years of high school and 4 years of University) with reference to the American system. Compulsory education time periods is 9 years, 6 in elementary school and 3 in junior high school. However, 81%out total 97% of students who get further education goes to normal high school, therefore they get the same education at high school level. It is good, but in fact, it means they do not choose any other options. Think nothing and go to school because everyone goes. It is considerable matter. They do not think why do they learn further or what do they want to learn? Lack of thinking cause that they have to choose everything at the time of entering the university. Some of them quit University because they cannot learn what they want actually. The same thing happens when they look for their jobs. They are not sure what kind of job do they want to do. Even there is not sufficient internship system held by Japanese companies, they cannot make right decisions.
There is also students goes to technical training school. They are about 19%. Those schools account about 30%. There are causes, but not many students take this way. Halve of students who graduate technic training school study further. It means the choice they took does not mean that they have to do their work all their lives long.
Comparing these two, I wonder how we get both good points.
Japanese system should take longer internship or introduce skill-up terms. It will help students who already decide their future, and students who are searching for their future jobs. Some may say that there is technical training school. However, it is not major way to take. In addition, Japanese internship system is not consolidated. Most of them are held in only 2 to 3 days. Students look around the work place and do some discussion and it will over. It does not work to choose which company to work.
Also for Germany, it can be said that German system should take good points of Japanese one. They should give students much longer time to choose their future job or which course they will take. To make it possible, they have to allow student to transfer to another school with ease. Then students can take multiple ways.
